Adult Day Care programs help seniors remain at home by offering individual and group services in a supervised setting. As the name implies, these services are daytime-only programs for social, nutritional, and medical, support provided in specially-designed centers. Adult Day Care assists family or other caregivers in maintaining full or part-time work, providing necessary caregiver respite time, and offers an alternative in care for those unexpected times where the primary caregiver is unavailable. There are two Adult Day Care models:
Social Day Care Model
- The Social Day Care Model serves persons with mild, moderate or severe Alzheimer’s disease, related dementias or other impairments.
- Supervised social and educational activities, including exercise, meals, walks, special events, nutrition, music, arts and crafts, guest speakers and family counseling.
- Licensed by the State of California Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing. Private pay, although some long-term care insurance may also cover some or all of the costs.
Medical Model
- The Medical Model offers all services provided in the Social Day Care Model, plus medical and nursing care.
- Serves frail and disabled adults who have medical complications or a psychiatric illness.
Licensed by the State of California Department of Health Services and are reimbursable by Medi-Cal and private pay. Some long-term care insurance may also cover some or all of the costs. Some centers offer both the Social and Medical models at the same location.
