ACACIA ADULT DAY SERVICES
Volunteer Opportunities:   Acacia has an ongoing need for activity volunteers, students, and interns in human services, psychology, and health related fields on a regular basis. Entertainment volunteers, such as those with musical skills, are in demand. Volunteers are needed to help with mailings, food service,and special events including holidays. A TB test is required. Acacia Adult Day Services, a nonprofit agency founded in 1979, provides adult day care and adult day health care for frail elderly adults and people with Alzheimer's and other physical disabilities at locations in Garden Grove and Cypress. Both sites are open weekdays.

COUNCIL ON AGING - Caring Connections Friendly Visitor Program

The Caring Connections Program offers trained visitors to frail older adults and persons with disabilities who may have little contact with the outside world. Monthly volunteer trainings are offered to interested individuals who want to make a difference in the life of someone who might otherwise be forgotten. Caring Connections is the only countywide friendly visitor program in Orange County who visits older adults and persons with disabilities.
 

 

COUNCIL ON AGING - HICAP Program
Volunteer Opportunities:            

Orange County’s Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) is looking for qualified candidates to become HICAP Volunteer Counselors. Our HICAP Counselors provide free, unbiased, individualized counseling to help Medicare beneficiaries and individuals reaching Medicare eligibility, understand their benefits and plan options. These free services are provided at locations throughout Orange County, primarily at Senior/Community Centers and at our HICAP office in Irvine. COUNCIL ON AGING - Long Term Care Ombudsman Program
Volunteer Opportunities:The Long-Term Ombudsman Service is the only federal and state mandated program to advocate for the 30,000 Orange County residents in 1,100 nursing and residential care facilities for the elderly. Ombudsmen work to resolve problems and concerns of individual residents by creating a presence through regular unannounced visits, monitoring conditions and care, and providing a voice for those unable to speak for themselves.
What is the Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program?:Ombudsmen receive and investigate an average of 3,000 complaints per year; these run the gamut of issues from complaints about cold food to alleged sexual abuse. Our Ombudsman program is the mandated reporting agency for any suspected abuse that occurs in licensed long-term care facilities.

The Council on Aging-Orange County, Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program offers free training to qualified volunteers who complete the mandated California State Long-Term Care Ombudsman 36 hour training course and 12 hours of field mentoring prior to certification by the state. There is a fee to cover printing costs of $50 (scholarships are available). Call if you are interested in helping residents to maintain or improve their quality of life in a skilled nursing home or residential care facility through advocacy, mediation, complaint-investigation, and resolution.

Volunteer Opportunities:Provide supportive companionship to isolated adults who are reintegrating into the community. 2 ½ hour training for Partners for Active Living is offered to volunteers once a month.
